My Thoughts:

From the unique writing style to the amazing characters and the beautiful quotes and thoughts, this book was a rollercoaster. And i loved it. Benjamin Alire Sáenz has a way with words that makes this book such a quick read – i mean, i read it in less than 24 hours. The plot is not very complicated, since there’s a lot of introspection and the writing was very simple but still beautiful.

This books is told from Ari’s point of view. In my oppinion, he was an amazing character and still a dark and closed person, which i really enjoyed. I actually thought he was a very relatable character and I totally understood everything he felt and did. And then we have Dante. I mean, how could I not like him? He’s sincere, funny, intelligent and just so cool.

I really enjoyed their friendship, and they way that they learned new things with each other. I also liked the fact that there are a lot of differences between Ari and Dante, but they still were best friends. I also loved their families’ appearences, which added a realistic factor to the book. Their parents were all so different, but still so interesting to read about.

Overall, i really did like this book. The plot and everything descripted in this novel is stuck in my head and I’m now thinking about it all the time. This book was just so powerfull – it really messed up with my emotions. If you haven’t gotten around to reading this yet, you really should. I highly recomend it!

Favorite Quotes

– “The summer sun was not meant for boys like me. Boys like me belonged to the rain.”

– “We sat, drinking our tea and watching the rain fall on his front porch. The sky was almost black and then it started hailing. It was so beautiful and so scary, I wondered about the science of storms and how sometimes it seemed that a storm wanted to break the world and how the world refused to break.”

Related recommendation

In this topic I will recommend something (like songs, movies, books, things like that) that I think is related to this book.

lo-fang-blue-filmThis time I am recommending an album. It’s Blue Film by Lo-Fang. Seriously this album is complete perfection and his voice is beautiful. I listened to it a lot the day i read this (not while reading though, bcs i don’t like to do so) and i thought that the melodies and the lyrics went really well with this novel. My favorite one and the one i think relates more to the story is Boris. Definetly go check it out.
