MY THOUGHTS

Before I start this review, I just want to say that Connor is one of my favorite youtubers and that probably influenced my overall amusement while reading this book. The memoir started out with Connor’s childhood, went through his adolescence and, finally, centers around his thoughts and his life at the moment. This way, I got to know more about his past, as well as his likings and his current lifestyle.

Overall, I thought this was a fantastic read, very light and easy to get through. Connor is such an inspiration for me in every way possible (photography, clothing and lifestyle in general). This book just increased the admiration I had for him in a huge scale. His motivational words are so uplifting and carry such a wonderfull message.

volcanoAnother amazing thing about this memoir is the fact that it’s filled with connor’s stunning photographs. Besides turning it into a beautifully crafted novel, they bring life and personality to the book, which is just amazing.

Besides talking about charity, high-school and his sexuality, Connor teaches us that we should stand up for ourselves and embrace our flaws. There may exist a lot of people who will try to label you or get to you and you just need to ignore them and be yourself. This book carries such an important message and that’s why I recommend it to everyone. Even if you’re not his biggest fan, you will end up being after reading this.

FAVORITE QUOTES

“Girls can be athletic. Guys can have feelings. Girls can be smart. Guys can be creative. And vice versa. Gender is specific only to your reproductive organs (and sometimes not even to those), not your interest, likes, dislikes, goals, and ambitions. Guys need feminine energy as much as girls need masculine energy to get by in the world. These are the things they don’t write on the chalkboard with the mathematical proofs.”

“My best friend, Troye, once told me, “If you wanna make cool shit, you gotta make cool shit”, and it’s engraved in my mind.”

12899901_1018264048234215_974011472_n“Raise your hand if you like every single aspect of your appearence. Unless Beyoncé is reading this book, there should be no hands in the air.”

“Trust me, the judgment says more about the labeler than the labeled.”

“People are beautiful. All people, of all shapes and sizes. The fact that we are living, breathing organisms that happen to have opposable thumbs, allowing us to pick up our phones and be on it for the entire damn day, is nothing short of brilliant. What makes us even more magnificent as a species is that we are lucky enough to be uniquely different – and it’s THAT individuality we must each harness and celebrate.”

“I can take the road to success or the road to failure, I thought. Both are just as easy. Or hard, depending on your perspective.”

“Forget about self-image and self-judgment. It’s about self-love, and no one teaches you that at school. No one teaches you that if you accept and love yourself, nothing and no one can touch you. This is the only face and body you’re ever going to get, so be comfortable and happy in it. Own it. Own every aspect of who you are and present it to the world with the utmost pride.”

RELATED RECOMMENDATION

I hope you guys liked it. I don’t have any Related Recommendation for this book, because it’s a memoir. I can tell you to go listen to Troye‘s album asap or go to his channel. (tronnor needed to be in this review, thank you very much). I can leave you Connor’s website/brand – Common Culture – that sells clothing, music and coffee. I can tell you to go binge-watch his videos. Or to go watch this one particular video, whose script is featured in the book. Love you all (:
